KATHMANDU, Aug 26: CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya said on Saturday that both President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai have no legitimacy.

Addressing a workshop in the capital, Baidya urged them both not to dispute with each other over legitimacy. He claimed that a political solution comes only through consensus among the political parties and a roundtable assembly.[break]

"Both the president and the prime minister are fighting over legitimacy. But both of them have no legitimacy in the context of there being no parliament and some articles of the interim constitution are inoperative," said Baidya.

After the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly, President Yadav and Prime Minister Bhattarai have been at odds over the issue of jurisdiction. Recently, President Yadav rejected ordinances forwarded by the Bhattarai cabinet.

Baidya also said that the country is in a political and constitutional logjam. "Yesterday our country was only in an economic logjam and now it is in a political and constitutional jam also," he added. "We can find a solution only through consensus among the political parties."

He also claimed that there was no possibility of reinstating the Constituent Assembly or holding fresh elections. He suggested that the only solution was a roundtable assembly.

"The so-called top leaders have failed. They cannot give a solution," he said adding that they are now forgetting about their failure.
