KATHMANDU, March 16: Prime Minister Sushila Karki, who heads the interim government formed after the Gen-Z movement, has come under widespread criticism after recommending and appointing individuals close to her to various posts as her government prepares to step down.
Karki, who assumed leadership of the government pledging to uphold good governance, has been accused of distributing positions to her trusted aides at the last moment after the completion of the elections.
Govt prepares to scrap all controversial cabinet decisions
A Cabinet meeting held on Sunday decided to recommend Minister for Home Om Prakash Aryal to President Ram Chandra Paudel for appointment as a member of the National Assembly. Aryal has been recommended for one of the three seats that the government is authorized to fill, which had remained vacant.
Similarly, the Cabinet also decided to appoint Adarsha Kumar Shrestha, the prime minister’s personal secretary, as the chairperson of the National Trust for Nature Conservation. As the patron of the trust, Prime Minister Karki nominated Shrestha to the post for a five-year term.
Shrestha previously served as a contract computer officer at the Supreme Court before being appointed as Karki’s chief personal secretary. His appointment to the key position as the government prepares to leave office has drawn criticism on social media.
