On our bucket list of New Year resolutions, we never forget to include something with our health, fitness or personal grooming. And the fact that it makes to the list repeatedly for most of us is because we never work on to it seriously. When work, family and other priorities ring alarm bells, health, fitness and grooming issues take a backseat.



Some of us also fail to take up the resolution for a longer time because we make ambitious plans in the beginning, which require changing lifestyle routines and putting a lot of time on work. And as soon as we slip black to our old routine, nothing can be achieved.[break]



So, The Week brings our readers some easy tips on fitness, health and personal grooming that require minimal efforts and can fit into the schedule quite easily. This way, we can all count on ourselves to bring our resolution into reality in this New Year!

Never skip breakfast

Mornings are definitely the rush hours of the day. With morning chores and then getting ready for study or work occupies most of the morning and leaves very less time for breakfast. And since one seldom gets hungry during the morning hours, we easily neglect our breakfast meals. But skipping breakfast can cause your metabolism to slow down, making it even tougher to lose fat, and set yourself up for overeating later in the day. So it’s advisable to make breakfast the most important meal of the day.



Take short power walks

Many of us love our sleep so dearly to sacrifice it for an hour of morning walk while some are always in ultimate rush to enjoy the luxury of a healthy morning stroll. In that case, we can always manage to sneak in some walk-in between our schedules. Walking from home to office can also be a good option, and if your workplace is at a significant distance, you can get off one or two stops earlier from your office and start your daily walk from there. And if you own a vehicle, parking it a little far from your workplace can give you time for a daily walk.



Drink water

Simply put, our body is mainly water. Six to eight glasses of water per day is said to hydrate you, improve your skin, enhance digestion, aid elimination, and help your body to rid itself of accumulated toxins. Some of us intend to prefer sodas over water when we’re thirsty which can have adverse effects on our health, like contributing to diabetes and obesity and ruin digestion. So, water can be your ultimate partner!

Remove makeup before sleep

Makeup is supposed to help us look more beautiful, but leaving it on overnight often has the opposite effect. It doesn’t even take half the time of applying the makeup to do it away. If you leave makeup on, during the long hour of sleep, your skin won’t be able to breathe which can cause acne breakouts and blemishes. And moreover, you would be neglecting a basic hygiene rule if you develop it as a habit.



Moisturize often

Men often think that moisturizing their skin isn’t as necessary as much as women do, but that’s obviously a false concept. Moisturizing your face and body everyday after shower will not only make your skin soft and glowing but will also require much less time after the skin is already dry and parched. Dried and scorched skin will never contribute to a pleasant personality!



Cleaner nails

Be it male or female, dirty nails are a big put-off in relationships and also business meetings. It’s necessary, therefore, to clip and file your nails regularly, and also make sure that they don’t have any residue of food or dirt stuck in them. It’s advisable to keep a nail clipper, file and other items you may need in the shower so that you can save time needed to do this, and this will also let you work on your nails on regular basis.

Though we’ve been hearing this since our kindergarten days, it’s definitely the thumb rule when it comes to good health regime. Some health gurus say that eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day has very real health benefits. Fruit juices, too, have similar advantages on health but direct fruit intake is preferred because of its high fiber content.



Increase intake of Omega-3 fatty acid

To embrace a good health regime without much effort, it’s advisable to have healthy and nutritious food in your refrigerator. Omega-3 fatty acids are thought to play an important role in reducing inflammation throughout the body in addition to have known to cure depression, fatigue to cardiovascular diseases. For Omega-3 intake, you should pick more fish, and if you’re a vegetarian, opt for walnuts and almonds.



Decrease alcohol intake

When you’re out partying with friends, it’s very hard to ignore a bottle of beer, a few shots or some glasses of wine. Especially when celebrations are on full swing, like New Year parties, it’s really hard to not participate even if you’re a moderate social drinker. But limiting yourself to a certain extent will help you ignore bad health effects due to alcohol intake. It’s believed that alcohol consumption in moderation is good for one’s health. So, ignoring excessive intake will make a small contribution but a huge benefit for your health.
