Nepal, India steering committee meeting begins

KATHMANDU, Oct. 10: The fifth meeting of Nepal-India ´Steering Committee´ related to the construction of East- West Terai (Postal) Highway kicked off here from today.



The joint-secretary-level meeting is expected to review the progress of highway construction, finding a solution to challenges for construction and hold discussions about how to take the project ahead.[break]



Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works Hariom Shribastav is leading a 16-member delegation to the meeting whereas Indian government´s Joint Secretary Akhilesh Mishra is taking part in the meeting with his 28-member delegation.



The meeting is taking place at a meeting hall of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works.



It may be noted that an agreement was signed between the governments of Nepal and India two years back to construct around 1500-kilometer long highway from east Mechi to west Mahakali with Indian grant assistance.



After the meeting, both the teams will go for field inspection of the project in Biratnagar, said Joint Secretary Shribastav.



Senior officers from ministries of finance, foreign affairs and physical planning and works and technicians from the Department of Roads are taking part in the meeting.
