Samsung claims world's thinnest LCD<br/>Narayani National commences operation after merger

KATHMANDU, Nov 3: South Korea-based Samsung Electronics has developed the world´s thinnest LCD panel that will be used in televisions, the company said in a statement Tuesday. Samsung said the technology will be used in LCD TVs with LED (light emitting diode) backlights. [break]



According to the statement, the company employed a ´super-shrink technology´ to make the panels. "The technology uses a combination of 3.9-millimeter thick glass and ´needle slim´ technology to achieve the largest viewing area within the smallest outline dimensions," it said, adding that the company had developed core components and realigned the backlight unit structure with its edge-lit LED backlighting offering lighter weight and thinner designs.



Amitesh Roy, brand manager for Samsung at Him Electronics, the authorized distributor of Samsung for Nepal, told myrepublica.com that televisions using the new panels are expected to be available in Nepal in 2010.





Narayani National commences operation after merger



KATHMANDU, Nov 3: Narayani Finance of Chitwan and National Finance of Kathmandu have executed the first successful merger in Nepali financial sector. The two finance companies recently completed all merger procedures and commenced operations as Narayani National Finance Limited from Sunday.



Following the merger, the paid-up capital of Narayani National Finance Limited has soared to Rs 433.30 million. The adjusted financial statement shows that its deposits now totals to Rs 1.76 billion and loans and investment stands at Rs 1.95 billion.



It also shows that the company´s adjusted profits for last fiscal year also crossed over Rs 21.90 million. Separately, both the finance companies were registering a sound growth in business and were operating in profits over the last five years. Both the companies had also issued bonus shares and cash dividends to their shareholders.



"Both the companies hold equal stake in executive board and management of the new company," said Ram Krishna Manandhar, chairman of Narayani National.



According to him, the board of the new company has three directors each from Narayani and National Finance. It has also appointed Umesh Singh Bhandari as the Chief Executive Officer of Narayani National Finance Company.





Kamana Development Bank to go public



KATHMANDU, Nov 3: Kamana Development Bank, licensed by Nepal Rastra Bank to operate as Category B financial institution, has signed up NIDC Capital Markets as issue manager for issuing its public shares.



According to a press release, the development bank will issue 700,000 units of shares to the public within this fiscal year. Each share will have a face value of Rs 100.



Kamana Development Bank has head office in Lekhnath of Kaski district.
