Prez summons leaders of main political parties

KATHMANDU, Dec 30: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav on Sunday summoned the top leaders of three major political parties and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) and acquired information about the progress made within the latest deadline given to them for formation of a national consensus government.



Top leaders of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and UDMF, who arrived at the Presidential Palace, Sheetal Niwas, this morning, familiarized the President about the ongoing formal and informal initiatives made for the formation of a national consensus government.[break]



President Dr. Yadav had gone on a visit to India after giving a five-day deadline to the parties to forge consensus for the formation of a national consensus government. The President returned home on Saturday.



No formal meetings were held among political parties until the latest deadline.



Chairman of the UCPN-Moist, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, President of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala, Chairman of the CPN-UML, Jhalanath Khanal and Mahantha Thakur of UDMF are present in the meeting. The meeting is on, it is learnt.
