'Kathmandu Debates 2013' calls for applicants

KATHMANDU, Dec 7: The children and youth at Sano Sansar Initiative, an organization established in 2006 working for environment and sustainable lifestyles, is organizing a debate program, Kathmandu Debates 2013, in partnership with International Debate Education Association (IDEA), Nepal Debate Initiative (NDI), and with support from the US Embassy in Kathmandu.



Scheduled to be held in January and February 2013, the organizers are targeting for the participation of 32 high schools from the Kathmandu Valley in the debate series which will be in the Karl Popper format of debates.[break]



Kathmandu Debates has invited trainers and judges who are trained by IDEA. The curriculum for this debate program which is designed by the same association aims to develop the participant’s ability to discuss national and international issues through thorough research and critical thinking.



For participation in Kathmandu Debates 2013, teams must be comprised of three student debaters and one teacher who will serve as a debate coach. The registration deadline has been scheduled for December 18, 2012 while the registration fee per team is set at Rs 900. Scholarship opportunities have also been made available on a need basis.
