ILAM, Dec 29: Former Chairman of Constituent Assembly (CA) Subash Chandra Nembang on Saturday said that ongoing political stalemate in the country and failure to promulgate the new constitution on time was outcome of non-existence of Constitutional Court (CC) in the country.

Speaking at a program organized by Constitution Information Center in Ilam, Nembang also reminded his earlier proposal about the incorporation of the provision of CC in the Interim constitution while it was being drafted.[break]

Nembang said that had the CC was existed earlier, it would have given its verdict on the ways to resolve the existing crisis in the country in the context of failure to draft new constitution through CA. He further added that country is currently passing through political vacuum due to non-existence of the CC.

“My proposal was not considered earlier, but now country is in such critical situation where Interim Constitution cannot govern,” Nembang argued. He also warned of extreme consequences in the country if consensus is not forged at the earliest.
