KATHMANDU, July 13: Various ethnic and religious groups have demanded security for Ram Bahadur Bomajan who has long been observing penance in jungle.

Organizing a press meet on Friday at Reporters´ Club, the groups said that demolishing religious idols built in Haleriya jungle by the security personnel does not go with spirit of the secularism in the Interim Constitution, International Labor Organization´s Convention No. 169 and United Nations declaration. The groups--Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh, Nepal Tamang Ghedung, Urgenchyoling Gumba, Karma Samteling Gumbha and Biswa Shanti Maha Baudha, among others--have demanded that the government reconstruct the demolished infrastructure, provide security to Bomjan so that he could continue with his penance, form a committee to probe financial activities conducted by Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh and declare Haleriya jungle as ´religious jungle´, among others.

The speakers also tried to make it clear that Bomjan left Haleriya jungle to Jankalyan Community Forest, Sindhuli in quest for tranquility.

They had even submitted a five-point demand including Bomjan´s security to the prime minister and forest and soil conservation minister.
