KATHMANDU, June 13: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday declined to uphold an interim order issued earlier to halt the implementation of the government's decision to dissolve trade unions. With this ruling, the government can now proceed with enforcing its decision to dissolve trade unions in government agencies.
A constitutional bench comprising Chief Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma and Justices Nahakul Subedi, Binod Sharma, Abdul Aziz Musalman and Mahesh Sharma Paudel issued the verdict after completing hearings on a writ petition. The hearing had begun on June 3.

Earlier, a constitutional bench comprising then Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justices Kumar Regmi, Hari Prasad Phuyal, Binod Sharma and Sharanga Subedi had issued an interim order, based on differing opinions, directing the government not to implement its move.
Justices Sharma and Subedi had expressed differing views on the case, stating that implementation of the decision would not cause irreparable harm.
The court had sought written responses from both sides through the Office of the Attorney General and summoned the parties for discussions.
The petition was filed by Bhawani Neupane Dahal, chairperson of the Central Committee of the Nepal Government Employees' Organisation, challenging the government's decision to dissolve trade unions.
