When we found out that we were going for a tour, we were curious and excited. Soon enough, we were telling each other that we would have lots of fun. It was a four day trip. On the first day, we left Kathmandu in the morning. Along with the 93 of us, we were accompanied by our teacher and the crew of NTV Plus’s children show ‘Hirda Hirdai’. [break]

The journey till Lumbini, our first stop, was fun. Its beauty was much more than what we had heard. The Buddha’s birth place was peaceful. There we visited many different stupas, Maya Devi temple, Ashok Stambha, Secret Garden and a meditation place. There was even a place where the fire was continuously burning.

Sauraha turned out to be better than we had expected. We found out that its attraction is the forest, Rapti river and the Tharu culture. There were a lot of attractive things in the forest of Sauraha. For instance, it was a habitat for many kinds of animals. We went for a jeep safari and climbed on an elephant’s back. It was probably because the road was used by a lot people that we didn’t see much animals. However, we did see different birds and deer. The ‘mahout dai’ made things more interesting for us. His constant interaction with people has armed him with the gift of the gab. Rapti river was fun too. All of us went for a swim and had a good time!s

Tharu museum was was our other stop. We came across various things that are used by the Tharus. There were hunting weapons and a statue wearing a Tharu costume. Similarly, we also visited Chitwan’s National Museum where there were animal skins of lion, cheetah and other animals on display. The sunset from the river side was quite a sight.

Gorkha is a historically an important place. We paid a visit to Gorkha Durbar and Ramshah Chautara. We were able to see many mountains, like Himchuli and Annapurna. We knew that the Gorkhali army fought and unified Nepal so we asked an old man “what happened in the war?”

“How would I know?” he told us. We had thought that all the old people there knew about the war. We didn’t miss Gorkha museum either. Canon, different coins, weapons, crown and the royal throne were kept on display for the visitors. We learnt that the museum had also helped in the conservation of different caste groups. Various artifacts of the Kumal and Sherpa caste groups were displayed in the museum. We were told that now there are only Kumal families in the district.

In the morning, we visited Manakamana temple and walked for an hour to Bakteshwor Mahadev. According to religious beliefs, Bakteshwor Mahadev is the place where Sati Devi’s tongue fell. All of us rang the temple’s bell and also had fun swinging on the swing there. It is believed that if we ring the bell for each letter in our name, our wish will be fulfilled.
