KATHMANDU, March 9: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has added one more seat to its tally under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) after the Supreme Court cleared the way for the announcement of election result in Dhanusha Constituency 1, which was withheld by the Election Commission over alleged blacklisting of RSP candidate Kishori Sah Kamal.
The issue reached the apex court after victorious RSP candidate Kishori Sah Kamal filed a writ petition challenging the EC’s decision to annul his candidacy on the grounds that he had been placed on a blacklist of the Credit Information Bureau. During Monday’s hearing, a single bench of Justice Nripdhwaj Niraula heard arguments from the petitioner’s legal team and decided to summon the Election Commission for further deliberation. The court has set Friday for the next hearing, while allowing the vote results to be announced in the meantime.

The Election Commission (EC) on Monday directed the election officer of Dhanusha-1 to announce the vote count results in line with the Supreme Court order.
A meeting of the EC instructed the election officer to make the results public after the Supreme Court ordered that the vote count outcome be declared based on the votes obtained by candidates who currently remain valid contenders. The court also scheduled the case for a priority hearing and stated that the announced results would remain subject to any further order from the court.
With the announcement of the results from Dhanusha-1, the RSP has increased its tally to 126 seats out of the total 165 constituencies under the FPTP system in the House of Representatives.
The development further strengthens the party’s dominant position in the ongoing parliamentary elections. In addition to its commanding lead in the FPTP race, the RSP is also leading the proportional representation (PR) vote count by a wide margin, securing close to 50 percent of the votes counted so far.
The strong showing in both electoral systems underscores the scale of the public mandate received by the relatively new political force, which has emerged as the single largest party in the latest House of Representatives election.
