Mustang farmers make Rs 150m selling mountain goats

MYAGDI, Dec. 8: Farmers of Mustang district have made an income of Rs.150 million by selling mountain goats this year. The farmers of Mustang, who are engaged in commercial mountain goat rearing had made the income by selling goat at around Rs. 15,000 each during Dashain festival time.



The people of Surkhang, Chhoser, Ghami, Charang and Chhondup VDCs of Upper Mustang have been tending mountain goats in view of the situation to import mountain goats from neighboring China during Dashain and Tihar festivals. [break]



Technician of the District Livestock Service Office Mustang, Aita Bahadur Thapa, said some 35,000 sheeps and mountain goats reached various parts of the country via Mustang during Dashain this year.



Less goats were imported from China this year after the farmers were engaged in rearing here, said one farmer Shankar Gurung of Chhoser.
