Ninteen-year-old Adhikari was abducted from Bakulahar Chowk, Ratna Nagar Municipality in Chitwan on June 2004 by the then Maoists and killed the next day.
A petition was filed by Nanda Prasad, father of Krishna Prasad, seeking an action against those involved in the murder. Adhikari had accused UCPN (Maoist) cadres as culprit in the petition, which remains undecided at the court. [break]
Speaking at a press conference organized at Reporter´s Club Nepal, Kathmandu on Monday, human rights activists Dinesh Tripathi has said that the victims´ parents Nanda Prasad Adhikari and Ganga Adhikari are on fast-unto-death since the last 30 days seeking justice for their son.
“The parties represented in the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) and the Khil Raj Regmi-led government would be held responsible if anything happens to the Adhikary couple,” said Tripathi. He further accused top Maoist leaders Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Baburam Bhattarai of exerting pressure on the government to not to proceed with investigations.
He further accused UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Dahal of giving political protection to the accused involved in the murder.
Another human rights activist Suresh Bhatta has said that the government should urge Adhikari couple to end the hunger strike by assuring them that the state would take necessary legal actions against the culprits.
He alleged Regmi of weakening the legal system of the country. “I have never seen our judiciary in such a sorry state.”
Civil society member Kanak Mani Dixit criticized the international communities´ working in the human rights sector for not supporting the Adhikari´s case.
