KATHMANDU, May 12: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Chhabi Raj Panta said the government will soon forward an election ordinance with provision of a proportional representation (PR) threshold if the political parties fail to forge consensus early.

Speaking at an interaction program here in capital on Sunday, Panta said, “We will do our best for the political parties to reach consensus on that matter, but in case the parties fail, we forward an ordinance with a PR threshold on our own.[break]

Insisting that the provision of threshold is a universal phenomenon, Minister Panta claimed that the proposal of one percent threshold provision in the election law is a democratic one.

On the occasion, Minister Panta also added that the government is set to declare the poll date within the third week of April soon after the election ordinance is finalized.

At the program, Panta also claimed that the incumbent election government has also the responsibilities of maintaining peace and security and good governance and conducting development works in the country.
