On Wednesday, Community Development and Relief Agency Nepal (CDRA), a Banepa-based NGO, stated that it would bear all treatment costs of Lekh Bahadur Thapa, 19, and Dol Bahadur Thapa, 15, who have been living with abnormally swollen abdomen for the last six months.[break]
Similarly, New Unity Youth Club of Tansen of Palpa has provided Rs 60,000 for the treatment of the Thapa brothers on Wednesday. Dipak Bhattarai, president of the club, handed over the money to Surya Thapa, older brother of the sick siblings. “I am glad that many people are showing concerns about the treatment of my brothers,” said Thapa.
Ashok Shrestha, director of CDRA, said that the two brothers will be treated at Dhulikhel Teaching Hospital. “Apart from the cost of treatment, we will also bear their living and travel costs,” said Shrestha.
Nabin Aale, uncle of the Thapa brothers, said that Lekh and Dol are delighted at the prospect of getting rid of painful big bellies.
As their big bellies made it difficult for them to walk easily, Lekh and Dol both dropped out of school five years ago. Now, they spend much of the time lying on the bed.
It is believed that the Thapa brothers´ bellies were swollen due to urinary tract infection. But, the actual cause has yet to be determined as the Thapa family could never send the siblings for proper diagnosis and treatment in lack of money.
