Due to poor financial status, Lekh Bahadur Thapa, 19, and Dol Bahadur Thapa, 15, are forced to live with the pain of unusually swollen abdomen and urinary tract disease, which have affected their daily and schooling. [break]
“At first Lekh experienced problem in urine retention and it was cured after medication. But later the disease gripped him further and his abdomen started to swell unusually,” Mother Galumaya remembered how the disease started six years ago. According to her similar symptoms appeared on her another son Dol Bahadur as well.

For the past five years the two brothers have been staying at home as they were unable to walk to the school. “We took them to many places for treatment but the disease could not be cured,” said Surya Thapa, the elder brother.
“We returned from Kahtmandu after Gangalal Hospital said the problem was caused by liver disease they need to undergo costly surgeries,” Surya added. According to Surya, locals doctors said that Lekh and Dol were suffering from Tuberculosis and they even took Tuberculosis medicine for 18 months.
The brothers, who said they are keen to go to school, have completed only up to third grade. “Had I been in good health, I would have gone to school,” said Dol Bahadur.
