A high level delegation of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) had separately met UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Shusil Koirala and CPN-Maoist chairman Mohan Baidhya to appraise the existing problems facing Nepali business sector. Press statement issued on Wednesday by the FNCCI president Suraj Vaidya hailed the fresh attempts being made by politicians for political consensus and asked them to establish understanding among themselves for common minimum economic issues.
He also apprised them of slow progress in development activities in the absence of full-fledged budget and expressed grievances over the indifference of political parties toward the economic problems in the country.
Other office bearers of FNCCI and representatives from district Chambers of Commerce and Industry had drawn the attention of the senior leaders toward the growing cases of extortion and problems in revenue sectors.
During the meeting with CPN-Maoist leader Baidya, business people raised the high-handedness of workers in the name of trade union protest, continued extortion by political cadres and their sister organizations as well as impact on economy due to ban by his party on Hindi movies and movement of Indian vehicles.
At the meeting with the delegation, Nepali Congress president Shushil Koirala assured party´s policy to support liberal economic agendas and urged business community to exert pressure on political parties to forge consensus to end political deadlock and formulate common economic agenda.
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Dahal assured business people of political consensus among political parties in the near future which is expected to address the concern raised by business people.
