According to rector at BPKIHS Dr Bikram Shrestha, the undergraduate students will not be allowed to bring their motorbikes inside the hospital from July 2013. “We will not allow students to bring their motorbikes inside the hospital,” said Shrestha.[break]
“Only those students, who are undergoing internship, will be allowed to bring their bikes to the college. As a matter of fact, we want students to ride bicycles instead of motorbikes and decrease the number of accidents,” he added.
Shrestha shared that they have already also informed the traffic police about the hospital´s decision. Most of the undergraduate students in BPKIHS are of Indian origin.
The college had informed the students about the ban on motorbikes at the beginning of the academic session in 2012, informed Shrestha. “We had informed the students about the ban on motorbikes. But the students have still been bringing their motorbikes to the college,” said Shrestha. Around 250 students have been bringing their motorbikes to college, he said.
Meanwhile, Inspector at Sunsari District Traffic Office Nabin Adhikari said that they have already started inspecting bikes that enter and come out of BPKIHS.
However, Roshan Acharya, secretary of the Student Welfare Society, said that the restriction has left the students in a dilemma.
