Women rights activists staged a demonstration in front of PM´s official residence from 9:00 to 11:00 this morning under the leadership of All Nepal Women´s Association while the Inter-party women´s network organized a rally cum demonstration at Ratna Park.[break]
UCPN (Maoist) leader Shashi Shrestha, Treasurer of the Association Sujita Shakya, civil society leaders Subodh Pyakurel, Dr Surendra KC, Bandana Rana and others took part in the demonstration.
Expressing serious concern over the increasing rate of murder, rape, sexual harassment and violence against women, the participants of the programmes called for stringent action against those found guilty in the incidents, and to ensure permanent measures for the protection of women´s rights.
They also called for special laws to address the issue.
The rally organized by the network began from Ratnapark and concluded upon reaching back to the starting point after passing through Bagbazaar, Pradashani Marga, Bhadrakali, Sahidgate and New Road.
