Pulchowk Club, Laligurans extend sponsorship deal

KATHMANDU, Dec 25: Shree Laligurans Multipurpose Co-operative Limited has extended its sponsorship deal with B division outfit Pulchowk Sports Club for the second consecutive year. Rabindra Joshi, the club´s president, and CEO of Laligurans Surendra Bhandari inked the deal amidst a function in the capital on Tuesday.



Pulchowk, which finished fourth in the last edition of B division league organized by All Nepal Football Association, is all set to compete in the new season that begins next month.[break]



As per the agreement, Laligurans will provide Rs 900,000 to the club and the club will be officially named Shree Laligurans Pulchowk Sports Club for a year. Bhandari also handed over the club´s jersey with the logo of Laligurans to skipper Bikash Dangol.



Sudil Shahi, the club´s secretary, said they have set the target of promotion to A division next year. "Despite putting up a good show we had bad results in the last stage of the league last year. We will try our best to get promoted next season."



Bhandari of Laligurans opined that the club was unable to make it to A division despite its long history. "The club must point out its weaknesses and rectify them if it wants to get promoted to A division," Bhandari said.



The club, established in 2042 BS, was promoted to B division in 2061 BS. The estimated cost of the league is Rs 1.2 million. "We don´t have much of a financial burden as we will receive support from the sponsor," Joshi, the club´s president, said.



Pulchowk has been training for the past two weeks as part of preparations for the new league season that begins from January 23. Among 30 players undergoing training, 17 are based in the capital. Players from outside the capital will join training after a few days, according to Joshi.



Meanwhile, foreign and departmental teams´ players won´t be allowed to play in the league. In the last edition, players from departmental teams were allowed to play in the league after taking approval from ANFA. But the provision has been removed this year.



Meanwhile, the club felicitated Niranjan Rajbanshi, the president of Nepal Sports Journalist Forum on the same occasion. Rajbanshi was felicitated for being elected as an executive member of AIPS Asia, the umbrella organization of sports journalists of Asia.
