Nepal's progress in TB control tops WHO target

KATHMANDU, Dec. 7: Nepal has achieved remarkable progress in controlling tuberculosis (TB) and its treatment in the recent years. The achievements of Nepal in preventing and controlling TB and treatment of late have exceeded the goal set by the World Health Organization (WHO).



Data shows that Nepal has witnessed 76 per cent success in the TB diagnosis rate and 90 per cent in its treatment against the 70 per cent and 85 per cent WHO´s target. [break]



According to data unveiled by the SAARC Tuberculosis and HIV/ AIDS Center ( STAC) amidst a special ceremony organized on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of SAARC on Wednesday, at present there are 4,220 health institutes, 1,122 health centers and 3,098 sub health centers in Nepal for the prevention, control and treatment of tuberculosis.



Speaking on the occasion, Secretary at Health and Population Ministry Dr Praveen Mishra underlined the need of regional cooperation for the control and treatment of tuberculosis.
