KATHMANDU, May 21: The selection and recommendation committee has begun reviewing applications for the vacant Vice-Chancellor (VC) posts in eight universities.
The committee under the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports had invited applications from eligible candidates within 10 days starting May 8. A total of 218 applicants have applied across the universities.

Tribhuvan University received the highest number of applications with 50 candidates, followed by Purwanchal and Pokhara universities with 38 each. Far-Western University received 19 applications, Mid-West University 20, Lumbini Buddhist University 11, Agriculture and Forestry University 15, and Rajarshi Janak University 27.
The committee has begun examining the documents of applicants and will publish a shortlist to move forward with the selection process.
A unified guideline for the selection and recommendation of vice-chancellors was approved on May 7, 2026. The process began after office-bearers of several universities were removed under a special ordinance on the removal of public office holders, issued on the government’s recommendation and endorsed by the President.
The selection committee includes Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel, Education Secretary Chudamani Paudel, and subject experts representing the concerned universities.
