India breaks ground for 33 million Solukhumbu Monastery

The Embassy stated that local representatives and stakeholders welcomed India's development assistance and expressed confidence that the new monastery infrastructure would help preserve the cultural heritage of the Likhu Pike area.

KATHMANDU, July 15: The foundation stone for the construction of the Ngagyur Nyingma Palyul Dhongag Chholing Monastery in Likhu Pike Rural Municipality of the Solukhumbu district was jointly laid on Monday by Likhu Pike Rural Municipality Chairperson Mina Karki Basnet and Ajay Kumar Singh, Second Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.



According to a press release issued by the Embassy of India, the monastery building will be constructed with financial assistance of approximately Rs 33 million from the Indian government.

The project is being implemented as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) through the Likhu Pike Rural Municipality. The embassy said it is the sixth HICDP supported by India in the Solukhumbu district.


The Embassy stated that local representatives and stakeholders welcomed India's development assistance and expressed confidence that the new monastery infrastructure would help preserve the cultural heritage of the Likhu Pike area.


According to the embassy, the project reflects the ongoing development cooperation between Nepal and India. It said the implementation of HICDPs demonstrates India's continued support for Nepal's efforts to promote growth and development while strengthening infrastructure in priority sectors.


Nepal and India have long collaborated on development projects in areas such as education, health, culture, and community infrastructure through India's grant assistance programs, the embassy noted.
