The campaign was organized by Change for Health Nepal with the support of Oriental Journeys and Harati Shikshya Mandir.Speaking at the closing ceremony, Wilfried Lemke, Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary General on Sport for Peace and Development said sports promote peace and harmony in the society.
"If we teach our children to love sport and be a part of it from early childhood, they make friends and respect each other. This way, one can make friendly neighbors and countries. We should include persons with disabilities in our each and every activity. We should treat all humans in equal way," he added.
Similarly, Lokendra Acharya, secretary of Change for Health Nepal, said sports play a crucial role in maintaining physical health of the people. "We are working with school children because they are the future of our society. We will encourage children to become healthy by involving them in physical activities. Sedimentary life will only invite diseases. Sports and physical activities along with nutritious food are the basis for good health," he said. He also said they were planning to take 'Sport for Healthy Living' to all earthquake-affected districts.
Likewise, Radhika Thapa of Oriental Journeys said her company was promoting adventure sports among people from all over the world. "We believe sports can be a strong agent to bring social change. Sports keep us active and empower powerless people through inclusive participation," she added.
On the occasion, Lemke handed over awards and certificates to winners of different sporting events organized as part of Sport for Healthy Living Campaign.
Concluding the program, Dr Laxman Adhikari, president of Change for Health Nepal, thanked Lemke for encouraging students through his participation in the campaign. He also said that Change for Health Nepal will take the campaign to different schools in earthquake-hit districts in the near future.
