Muslim pilgrims ahead of the annual Hajj pilgrimage
KATHMANDU, May 17: A pilgrim visiting Badimalika Temple, a well-known religious and tourist destination in western Nepal, has died during the journey.
The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Bishwaraj Panthi, originally from Bhairahawa and currently serving as an accounting officer at the National Vigilance Center, according to the District Police Office in Bajura.
Police spokesperson and Inspector Naresh Bahadur Shahi said Panthi suddenly lost consciousness in the Khare forest area while trekking toward Badimalika for pilgrimage. Members of the group rushed him to the district hospital in Bajura for treatment, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Police said Panthi had traveled to Badimalika along with three colleagues from the National Vigilance Center: Deputy Secretary Shivhari Neupane, section officer Jeevan Ghimire, and accountant Umesh Sharma.
Among the four-member team, Panthi reportedly suffered from altitude-related illness and fainted suddenly during the uphill trek. Despite being taken for medical care, he could not be revived.
