SPORTS BRIEFS: Satdobato, Sanepa victorious

KATHMANDU, Aug 17: Satdobato Youth Club and Sanepa Club emerged victorious on Wednesday in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull C Division Football League under way at the Chyasal ground. Satdobato defeated Khumaltar Youth Club 2-0 and Sanepa edged past Khalibari Football Club 3-2.



Dhiraj Tamang and Rahul Malla Thakuri scored one goal apiece for Satdobato in the seventh and 44th minutes respectively. [break]



In another match, Rahul Khadka, Laxman Tharu and Utsav Lama were on target for Sanepa in the 42nd, 64th and 69th minutes respectively. Peace Gurung and Bhimsen GC netted one each for Khalibari in the 58th and 90th minutes respectively. Meanwhile, the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has called off Thursday´s matches citing technical reasons. The matches of the league will therefore be conducted a day later than the scheduled date.



B Division League from Aug 24
KATHMANDU: The new season of Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division League Football will start from August 24. According to a press statement issued by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), a meeting of ANFA officials and representatives of B division clubs decided to conduct the event in round robin format and also published the fixtures.



Altogether 15 B division clubs -- Mahabir, Birgunj Youth Academy, Tusal Youth, Kumari Youth, Gyan Bhairav, Chyasal Youth, Kathmandu, Madhyapur Youth Association, Boys Sports, Sano Gaucharan Youth, Star, Samajik Youth, Boys Union, Sankata and Pulchowk Sports Club -- will compete in the league. Sankata and Boys Union were relegated from top flight football last season. The top two teams from B division will qualify for next year´s A division league, while the bottom four will be relegated. Meanwhile, the top six clubs will qualify for the B Division National League to be held later this year.


Thapa, Shakya into last eight
KATHMANDU: Amrit Thapa and Binod Ratna Shakya advanced into the quarterfinals of men´s singles in the Third NSRA Open Squash Championship on Wednesday. Thapa defeated Rajendra Shrestha in three straight sets while Shakya beat Deelip Narsingh Adhikari 3-1 in the matches played at the Satdobato Squash Academy, Lalitpur. Likewise, Gyanu Chaudhary overcame Kiran Maharjan and Prajjwal Pradhan crushed Karbir Tamang to book their spots in the last eight of men´s singles. Suroj Shrestha also reached the quarterfinals defeating Rajesh Mani Ghimire. In the veterans´ singles of above 40 age group, Amar Keshar Singh, Manoj Bahadur Shrestha and Bidur Dhamala won their respective matches on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Shera Tamang enjoyed two victories on Wednesday in the women´s singles round robin league. Tamang beat Neha Banshal and Nilima Malla. Likewise, Krishna Thapa defeated Shrishti Maskey.
