Valley Public won the match 10-11, 19-11, 23-12, 2-22 respectively. Sohan Tamang and Prakash Sigdel contributed 22 points apiece for Valley. In junior´s section, Valley Public saw off Angel´s Heart 24-22 in the competitive semifinal. Sumit Rai and Sushil Dhakal contributed eight points each for the winning side.
In juniors´ another semis, Greeland saw off Awareness International Academy (AIA) 25-19 riding on seven points each of Bishwas Rana and Jiten Karki. In seniors´ second semifinal, Golden Peak thrashed Health Care Academy 59-39. Rakesh Shrestha netted the highest 37 points for the winning side.
Mixed results for host Baba
KATHMANDU: Baba Boarding School on Saturday started the Kodomo Baba Inter-school Basketball Tournament with mixed results. During the matches played at the home court, the B team of Baba registered win while the A lost its match in the senior boy´s category.
Host B team thrashed Brihaspati 53-21 while the A lost against Sambotta 51-16. Mukesh Baniya scored 16 points for the host while Tenzing Chonging netted 19 points for Sambotta.
Nischal Maharjan´s 13 points guided Puspa Sadan to a 50-22 victory over KMC. Gyan Niketan edged past Children´s Liberty 48-36. Bhim Limbu scored 21 points for the winning team.
In the senior girl´s category, Mahendra Bhawan thrashed The Chandbag 52-5. Shanti Shrestha scored 19 points for the winning team.
Altogether, 13 teams in the senior boys and six teams are participating in the sixth edition of the tournament.
Defending champs on cloud nine
KATHMANDU: Defending champion Prime College started the Ninth Prime Cup Basketball Championship on Saturday with victories in both boy´s and girl´s categories.
Host boy´s team thrashed Reliance International Academy 77-31 while the girl´s team registered a narrow 26-25 win over Premier. Ayush Singh scored 22 points while Alisha Ghale scored seven points in host teams victory. Prime boy´s team dominated all the quarters for the win while the girl´s team came behind from 13-20 to win the match by a single point. Sujata Rai scored eight points for Premier.
In another match of girl´s category, Nakhipot routed Reliance 42-19. Sadina Shrestha was the highest scorer with 14 points.
Trinity, Pentagon and Morgan registered wins in the first day of the tournament in the boy´s category. Trinity overcame Golden Gate 45-41. Krishna Maharjan scored 17 points for the winning team while Bishal Gurung scored 18 points for the Golden Gate. Manoj Raj Upadhya´s 21 points guided Pentagon to the 40-26 victory over VS Niketan.
Morgan defeated Premier 42-32 in the last match of the day. Narhari Gautam scored 12 points for the winning team.
Gorkha Boys into semis
BUTWAL: Gorkha Boys advanced into the semifinals of the First Madan Bhandari Gold Cup Football Tournament after defeating DYC Club 3-1 in penalty shootout on Saturday in Butwal. After the regular time and extra time ended in a goalless draw, the match was taken to penalty shootout. Safal Sapkota, Kovit Karki and Alice Magar scored for Gorkha Boys while Saroj Koirala scored for DYC. Butwal United will meet Soubhagya Club on Sunday.
