BUTWAL, Oct 10: Lack of sufficient budget has put the under-construction six-lane road along Butwal in a limbo.

According to the Division Road Office, Butwal, the construction works worth Rs 66.2 million have been completed out of total tender of Rs 120.75 million. The contractor is yet to be paid around Rs 20 million for the work completed.[break]

The construction of 3.8 km road, stretching from Chauraha (crossroad) area to Golpark intersection and from Pushpa Lal Park to Tinau Bridge commenced two years ago. The construction company was entrusted with the task of expanding the four-lane road to six-lane last year.

Under the second-phase, Rs 100.40 million tender was approved, informed the road division office.

The government allocated only Rs 8 million in the current fiscal year out of total requirement of Rs 180.23 million.

The first phase of construction that commenced in 2009 should have been completed by the end of fiscal year 2010/11. But now it is expected to be completed within the extended deadline of January 31 due to the lack of budget, said Dipak Kumar Bhattarai, Chief of Division Road Office, Butwal.

The government needs to allocate budget of Rs 170.3 million to accomplish the construction work as per the first and second phase agreements within 2013.
