KATHMANDU, July 17: A busy stretch of road in Kathmandu turned into a scene of chaos on Friday after five vehicles, including an Indian-registered car, collided in a chain-reaction crash, leaving 10 people injured, one of them critically.
The accident occurred in front of the Qatar Visa Center at Ward 4 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. According to police, the vehicles involved included an Indian-registered car (BR06DD6063) traveling from Chabahil toward the Ring Road, a taxi, and three motorcycles.
Is Critical Thinking Really Critical?
The impact of the collision left commuters stranded and prompted an emergency response. All the injured were rushed to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, where they are undergoing treatment.
Among the injured, 65-year-old Kuntimaya Limbu of Basundhara is in a critical condition after sustaining serious head and right arm injuries. The remaining victims suffered injuries ranging from moderate to minor wounds.
Those injured include taxi driver Urja Lama, motorcyclists Biki Shaha, Niujit Shah and Binod Thapa Magar, as well as passengers and pedestrians, including Siwani Shahi, Sushant Shahi, Bishnumaya Khapung, Parbati Tamang, and Jeevan Rana Magar.
Police have taken all five vehicles involved in the accident into custody and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary details about what triggered the multi-vehicle collision in the newly-upgraded stretch of Ring Road have yet to be made public.
The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety in the Kathmandu Valley, where heavy traffic, speeding and inadequate lane discipline continue to contribute to a high number of road accidents. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise greater caution, particularly on congested urban roads.
