BIRATNAGAR, Feb 16: Seven political parties and underground armed groups have hoisted their flags in a piece of private land in Biratnagar, claiming to be championing the rights of the squatters.

Some 20 squatter families, who had been residing in the land, were removed after the owner of the 1.15 katthas of land Narayan Prasad Koirala sold it. The political parties and armed groups say they put up the flag in the land for the rights of the squatters to settle there.

Madhes Nirman Sena, a combative wing of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum, put up a flag there five days ago and UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, Tarai Madhes Democratic party and Madhesi Mukti Tigers followed suit.
