According to SC Spokesperson Shreekanta Paudel, the SC proposal is based on recommendations of the Security Study Committee (CSSC) formed under SC Justice Bal Ram KC. The CSSC was formed about a year ago.
The SC has demanded 10 judicial police personnel for each district and appellate courts. “We have asked the government to create posts for 1,000 judicial police personnel, said Paudel, adding, “Such police personnel will work under court´s control and directives.”
The SC has also sought 90 judicial police personnel for Special Court, Revenue Tribune, Labor Court, Administrative Court and Debt Recovery Tribune.
Following CSSC´s recommendation, the government has already provided one personal security officer (PSOs) to each appellate and district court judges.

SC chief justice and appellate courts´ chief judges were given this facility some two years ago following an attack on former chief justice Kedar Prasad Giri.
The committee had recommended the courts to ensure safety to all, including litigants, the accused, lawyers, journalists, witnesses, experts, observers, and others, inside the courts, SC justice KC told myrepublica.com.
Assistant spokesperson for the Supreme Court Hemanta Rawal said that the government needs to be serious toward addressing their demands.
“In particular, judges and officials serving in the troubled Tarai districts have been receiving death threats. The situation in the capital has also been deteriorating,” Rawal said.
