LONDON, Aug 2: Nepali athlete Pramila Rijal´s participation in the London Olympics is in limbo as she has been suffering from back pain. Rijal had the back problem since the past three weeks but the pain grew severe in the last two days. The doctors have advised her not to participate in the games.

However, the doctors have been giving painkiller injections to Rijal from Tuesday after she insisted on participating. Rijal is to participate in the 100m sprint on Friday.[break]

"Doctors have been saying that there is a serious problem in my back and they have advised me not to run under any circumstance," said Rijal. "But after I insisted on running, they started giving me injections."

Rijal said that she had been insisting as she might not get another opportunity to participate in the Olympics.

According to Rijal, Nepali team´s doctor Ranjit Baral has suggested her to take a six-month long rest. Republica´s attempts to get in touch with Dr Baral did not succeed.

As Rijal sustained injury, her ambition to break the women´s 100m national record of 12.02 seconds set by Debi Maya Paneru in 1999 might not materialize.

"It´s difficult for me to run and the national record is a distant dream now," said Rijal. "I´m running to console myself that I utilized my chance in Olympics despite the odds," she added.

Rijal´s personal best timing in 100m sprint is 12.06 seconds.
