KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Resident doctors of other hospitals are to start protest in support of Dr Govinda KC from Sunday.

Doctors at National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital and B.P Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Dharan have announced to resort to agitation.

Resident doctors at the Institute of Medicine (IoM) have been boycotting Out-patient Department (OPD) service from Monday to exert pressure on the government to heed demands raised by Dr KC.

After Nepal Medical Association refused to launch agitations, youth doctors have set Sunday morning as deadline for the association to announce protest.

Meanwhile, government is holding talks with Dr KC, who is in hunger strike since 13 days, regarding his demands. But, both the parties have failed to reach an accord after Dr KC remained adamant on quashing affiliation granted by Kathmandu University. He has also asked the government to rethink on recent appointments of Vice-chancellors in different universities.

On behalf of the government, Vice-Chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC) Govinda Pokharel is holding talks with Dr KC.

Dr KC, a senior professor at the IoM, is on hunger strike demanding full implementation of the Mathema taskforce's report and other past accords.
