The young political leaders and the generation of elder political leaders emphasized on the need to encourage partnerships with the youth in political activities.
Former Prime Ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba and Madhav Kumar Nepal along with Amit Serchan of UCPN-Moaist, Abhishek Pratap Shah of Madeshi People’s Rights Forum, Rabindra Adhikari of CPN-UML, YCL leader RC Sharma, President of Sadbhawana Party Sarita Giri, Central Committee member of Nepali Congress Gagan Thapa, Secretary of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sushil Ghimire and Secretary of Ministry of Health and Poulation Dr. Prabin Mishra were the speakers at the event.
While Rabindra Adhikari emphasized on the need of creating economic opportunities to empower youths, RC Sharma said that youths were the agents of change and that disassociating them with the decision-making processes would not help the country.
“The youth should not only be the pillars of tomorrow but the partners of the present as well,” said Sharma.
Madhav Kumar Nepal and Sher Bahadur Deuba were both positive on handing over the leadership to the youth. Sher Bahadur Deuba agreed that this was the time for the youth while Madhav Kumar Nepal shared similar thought.
However, both the leaders expressed concern over whether the youths were ready to shoulder the responsibilities. Nepal said that youths must be prepared to take over the leadership.
A musical performance by Kutumba and a drama by AYON volunteers on the importance of youth networking were also a part of the celebration.
