The districts include, Baglung, Parbat, Myagdi, Kaski, Tanahun, Syangja, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi and Pyuthan. Finland has pledged financial assistance for the execution of the campaign. [break]
The campaign aims at supplying potable water to 80,000 people living in remote areas. Besides, it also aims at reducing arsenic level in water being used by 10,000 people and constructing toilets.
The first phase of the campaign, which will run till 2017, is expected to cost Rs 720 million. The government has agreed to bear 30 per cent of the total cost for the execution of the campaign.
According to official statistics, about 13,000 people die annually due to water-borne diseases in Nepal. The campaign is expected to be instrumental in reducing the number of deaths caused by lack of potable water and sanitation.
