NEPALGUNJ, Feb 26:  Senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal has accused Maoist leaders of promoting corruption in the country.

“Maoist leaders outmaneuvered in just two years the leaders who had indulged in corrupt practices for the past ten years,” said Nepal while addressing the party´s senior cadres in Nepalgunj. [break]

Nepal claimed that the Maoist leaders have misappropriated billions of rupees from the state coffers in the name of “non-existent combatants”. “Maoist leaders have even embezzled allowances meant for the Maoist combatants,” he further said.

Arguing that the Maoist cadres may influence cadres of the other parties to indulge in corrupt practices, Nepal directed his party cadres not to involve in such unscrupulous activities. He said the Maoists had failed to mend their ways even as the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML took a big risk by bringing them into mainstream politics.

“The parties have reached an understanding to first conclude the peace process and then promulgate the new constitution,” he said. “But the Maoists have now been arguing that both the peace process and constitution drafting process should go side by side. No one is going to be fooled now.”
