Sunil Kumar Saday, 30, hacked Rajodevi Saday, 25, with an axe while she was asleep, according to District Police Chief Sharad Oli.
Sunil, who fled his house after the murder, was arrested a kilometer away from his house.
The motive behind the murder remains unknown.
Locals said Sunil killed her for pestering him not to consume too much alcohol.
The couple has a nine-month-old daughter.
