KU trustee Damannath Dhungana and professor Lok Bikram Thapa were the other members of the committee.
“Majority of members think Dr Makaju is the right person to hold the post so we have forwarded his name to the prime minister,” said Minister Sharma, who is also the pro-chancellor of the KU. He claimed that Makaju was the most eligible person to lead the internationally reputed university as its VC based on his seniority as well as competency.
After Professor Suresh Raj Sharma resigned from the post on November 9, the KU senate, led by PM Baburam Bhattarai had formed the VC selection committee. Professor Sitaram Adhikari and Educationist Mana Wagle, both of whom have served at KU for a long time, were also among the probable candidates for VC.
The committee, mandated to nominate the names of three candidates, had recommended only Dr Makaju´s name to the PM. Dr Makaju also serves as the medical director of the KU Teaching Hospital, Dhulikhel. He could not be contacted for comments as he is on a Europe tour.
