The projects covered by the assistance are the Sindhuli Road Section III and Countermeasure Construction against the Landslides on Sindhuli Road Section III.[break]
An agreement to his effect was signed amidst a programme at the Ministry of Finance Tuesday.
The grant assistance from the Japan government will be spent to construct the remaining road segment under Section III and reconstruction of landslide affected parts of this project.
The Banepa-Sindhuli Road is being constructed with the main objective to develop an alternative link road to mid and eastern Terai with the capital city. Also, this will reduce travel distance and time of the traffic between Kathmandu and eastern Terai and thus substantially saving passenger and goods transportation cost.
The construction of the road is expected to be completed within March, 2015.Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Kuniyo Takahashi signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments.
Joint Secretary at the Finance Ministry Lal Shankar Ghimire and Mr Satoshi Fujii, Senior Representative of JICA signed the general agreement on behalf of the government of Nepal and the government of Japan and JICA, respectively.
On the occasion, Finance Secretary Baskota expressed hope that the new assistance of Japan to Nepal would contribute to the socio-economic development of Nepal.
