“It takes hours to send news and pictures. Therefore, I sent most of my news stories via fax,” said Ganesh Mainali, RSS correspondent for Dipayal.
Absence of reliable internet service has also hit the financial sector. “We need to do networking with Kathmandu and Dhangadhi. They send cash vouchers and other important documents via e-mail. But we cannot access the information,” said Mukunda Bhandari, an officer at the Himshikhar Multi-Purpose Cooperative located in Dipayal market.
“Therefore, we have to request that the documents be faxed to us. After telecom offered internet service with the use of landlines, we paid them. But we couldn´t use the service for even a day,” he said, adding, “Then we tried Sky post-paid service, but to no avail. When we enquire, telecom officials say the service is working everywhere else.”
Karka Kathayat, proprietor of Satnam Hi-tech Computer Institute in Rajpur of Dipayal is also facing problems due to absence of internet connectivity.
“Our courses include internet and e-mail classes. But we have not been able to teach students how to operate information technology,” Kathayat said. “All the students come to learn how to use the internet. But we have to send them back without admitting them,” he added.
Nepal Telecom office in Dipayal says the situation arose due to networking problems. Lala Bahadur Rawal, chief of the office, said works to install a tower is on.
