RAUTAHAT, May 19: An investigation team from the Ministry of Health and Population on Sunday reached Gaur, the district headquarters of Rautahat, to probe illegal appointment of staffers at District Health Office.

The two-member team led by Undersecretary Suresh Nyupane has already started interrogating the illegally recruited employees. The ministry had formed a team to investigate into the issue following allegations that then DHO Chief Dr Akhilesh Singh appointed 83 staffers a few months ago by accepting bribes from them. The team has also seized some of the documents from DHO. In the course of investigation, the team has found that the DHO did not seek departmental approval before appointing the staffers.

According to Nyupane, the DHO did not publish a vacancy notice to fill the vacant posts. It has also not mentioned the salary of the staffers recruited by Singh.

DHO Chief Raj Kishor Pandit said the team is investigating the incident. He has also demanded action against Singh. The new recruits have claimed that they had paid Rs 100,000 to 150,000 for recruitment at DHO.
