As reported by the Indian media, two of those killed in the incident were foreigners -- an Italian woman and an Iranian student. Gokul Nepali, a Nepali waiter was also killed in the incident. [break]
“A Nepali worker called me this morning and said Karki family was safe,” said Shyam Pant, Karki´s brother-in-law, who lives in Swayambhu. “But no one has answered my calls at the bakery since yesterday. I tried all the landline numbers I know, but nobody responded.”
Karki, 50, who is originally from Payuntar, Dharmasthali VDC in Kathmandu has been staying in India for the last two decades. He runs a handicraft business in Goa and the eatery where the explosion took place. He has employed over a dozen Nepalis.
As explained by the Nepali worker, Karki family and other Nepali workers are busy helping the injured in hospitals.
Indian police commissioner Satyapal Singh was quoted in reports as saying that 60 people, including two Nepali nationals, have been injured in the blast. According to him, forty-one of them are receiving treatment in hospitals.
Karki couple had reached the blazing eatery after returning from market at about 7 p.m, Pant quoted the Nepali worker as saying. “They lived in the same building that housed the eatery,” he added.
“Ramesh Pant, one of our relatives working with him (Karki), was said to have called a relative in Thamel last night who later informed me and asked not to worry,” said Pant, adding, “We are glued to our TV hoping to get more information about them,” he added.
Phadindra Khadka, a handicraft supplier having business relationship with Karki, said “We have also been trying to establish contact with him.”
