FM Koirala off to Colombo

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala left for Colombo on Wednesday to participate in the sixth meeting of SAARC finance ministers.



The meeting will explore the new avenues to increase flow of long-term capital in the region. Similarly, it will also finalize the draft on investment promotion and protection . [break]



The finance ministers of the regional bloc will also discuss extensively on ways to protect the region from financial crisis that has been badly affecting major economies across the world.



The main objective of the meeting is to review the progress on commitment made in the fifth meeting held in Dhaka and formulate the future strategies for economic prosperity of the region.



SAARC finance secretaries met on Wednesday ahead of the meeting of finance ministers to finalize agenda for the meeting.



Koirala is also scheduled to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
