KATHMANDU, Dec 28: In the past 24 hours, fire incidents across different parts of the country have claimed two lives and left nine others injured.
Most of these accidents occurred when clothing caught fire while people were warming themselves, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). Spokesperson Shanti Mahat noted that such fire incidents are happening on a daily basis.
Funds for new cars but not fire engines
In Humla’s Kharpunath Rural Municipality–2, a sudden house fire killed a child and injured three others.
Similarly, in Mahadev Rural Municipality–2 of Dhanusha, a 22-year-old woman died after a fire broke out while heating water on a gas stove. She passed away during treatment at the Burn Hospital in Kirtipur.
In Sunsari’s Bokraha, a woman was injured when her sari caught fire while warming near a stove. Similar incidents occurred in Saptari and Mahottari, where women suffered burns after their saris ignited while heating near fires.
Additionally, fire accidents in Rautahat, Parsa, and Dolakha injured one person each. In Bhaktapur, an 11-year-old girl was injured while warming herself near a fire.
