Dahal´s aide Shiva Khakurel submitted the bail amount of Rs 28,000 at the Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) for Kunwar´s release. Kunwar was released later in the day.
Dahal is said to have taken this decision after Kunwar´s sympathizers from in and outside the country started raising funds to secure his release. Kunwar was in detention after he slapped Dahal at a public function in Bhrikutimandap on November 16.
Two days later, the government had filed a case against Kunwar under the public offense Act and had also formed a three member committee headed by AIG Nawaraj Dhakal to investigate into the incident.
Saying that Kunwar´s family had ties with the party, Dahal, in the media, had said that he had forgiven him, but had demanded a probe into the incident. In his police statement, Kunwar said he slapped Dahal in a fit of rage.
