A Standing Committee meeting in Balkhu Tuesday decided to bring out the written concept on all issues except on their demand to form federal states based on single ethnic identity. The meeting concluded that the party should make its bottom line against single ethnic identity based federal state. [break]
“It is not possible for the party to make a policy to go for single ethnic identity based federal state,” said UML Secretary Shanker Pokharel. “There can be discussions on other issues raised by the dissenting leaders.”
Pokharel said that the dissenting leaders who will be convinced with the party´s written policy can resume their duties in the party. Dissenting leaders including Vice Chairman Ashok Rai have been boycotting the party´s function since about four months ago.
Pokharel said the party could think about going for the revival of the Constituent Assembly (CA) if there was consensus among parties on all contentious issues of new statute. “But the party has concluded that there cannot be consensus all contentious issues of the new statute,” he said.
Earlier, the UML had decided to go for fresh election to seek people´s mandate, leaving the dissenting leaders further enraged with the party.
Likewise, the standing committee meeting has formed a committee under the Yuvraj Gyawali to probe into the anarchic, criminal and activities related to hooliganism in the All Nepal National Free Students´ Union (ANNFSU) and recommend actions against the those involved in such incidents. Other members of the committee are Ganga Lal Tuladhar, Prakash Jwala, Bisnu Rimal and Bhanubhakta Dhakal.
Among other things, the meeting has decided to suspend ANNFSU Secretariat member Ain Mahar for six months as per the recommendation made by a probe committee formed to investigate into the incident that occurred in Law Campus.
Likewise, three other members involved in the incident were suspended for three months.
