KATHMANDU,  Dec 4: Expressing utter dissatisfaction over the Christian population shown in the National Census 2011, members of the Christian community have urged the authorities to make corrections. They said they would launch protests if their demands is not heard.

Talking to Republica general secretary of the Federation of National Christian, Nepal Chandra Bahadur Gahatraj claimed that the census report shows their population as 300,000 but the actual number is over 2.5 million. [break]

“We have 60 years old history in Nepal and we already have 8,500 churches across the country. In the churches we maintain proper lists of the members along with their identity and photographs. On that basis I can claim that our population is over 2.5 million,” he said, adding, “The figure mentioned in the census report is unacceptable.”

Gahatraj also said the community is concerned over the non-implementation of the 6-point agreement reached with the government in the past. “Regarding both the issue, we are going to hand over a memorandum to the National Planning Commission and the prime minister´s office tomorrow [Wednesday]. If they don´t act on our demand, we will launch protests including hunger strike,” he said.
