KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa has said the country needs a force capable of stabilising the nation rather than provoking unrest.
Addressing a party gathering in Kaski district, he said that Nepal is currently trapped in deep frustration and distrust. He said that NC must act as a patient political force that guides the country toward resolution instead of spreading agitation.

Stating that citizens harbour deep anger and extreme mistrust toward state institutions, he said a responsible political actor is essential in such a sensitive time. “Anyone can start a fire, but it takes patience and capability to extinguish it. That strength must be ours,” Thapa said, adding that the country requires a politics of awareness rather than provocation.
He said public dissatisfaction is profound and must be answered through reform, noting distrust toward the constitution, courts, political parties and leadership has weakened national confidence and created social unrest.
Thapa argued corruption is the root cause of the prevailing despair, claiming citizens see it as the country’s biggest enemy, and said the Nepali Congress aims to lead the fight against it as it once helped steer the nation away from violence.
He urged party leaders and cadres to carry the message during outreach campaigns that the Congress can stabilise and reform the country.
