BUSINESS BRIEFS: Handicraft trade fair from Thursday

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The 8th Handicraft Trade Fair and 6th Craft Competition is starting at Exhibition Hall, Bhrikuti Mandap from Thursday. The fair is being organized to promote local consumption and exports of Nepali handicraft products.



Addressing a press meet Monday, Pushkar Man Shakya, immediate past president of Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN), said the fair is being organized to promote handicraft business and exports. “At present, there is a great imbalance in imports and exports. We need to balance them to improve our national economy,” he added. [break]



Every year, Nepal exports 42 kinds of handicraft products worth Rs 7 billion to 80 countries across the world.



Handicrafts items like 9 to 10 feet tall full size sculpture, 20 feet tall Swayambhu Stupa, ancient stone taps, materials made from ceramics will be the main attraction in the five-day fair. The fair will have about 150 stalls of handicraft manufacturers along with banks, financial institutions and insurance companies.



The best stall and the best artist in the fair will be rewarded on the last day of the fair.



The organizers are expecting total transactions worth Rs 40 million during the fair. A total of 300,000 visitors are expected to visit the stalls.





FedEX to support handicraft fair



KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Everest De Cargo, the licensee of FedEX Express, has announced that it would sponsor 8th Handicraft Trade Fair and 6th Craft Competition.



Everest De Cargo and the Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN) signed an agreement to this effect on Tuesday, according to a statement received on Tuesday.



Neelish Pradhan, marketing director of Everest De Cargo, said the support to the fair is a continuation of their effort to support the promotion of handicraft sector in Nepal.





Virgin Mobile announces winners



KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Virgin Mobile on Tuesday announced the lucky winners of its Valentine´s Day special offer for February 13, 14 and 15.



The lucky winners are L Lama (Coupon N0. 0635), Uttam KC (Coupon No. 0646) and Prem Deep Karthak (Coupon No. 1613), according to a press statement issued by the company.



The company has been launching the special offer from the beginning of this month. Under the offer, a lucky customer buying any branded mobile at the store gets Rs 10,000 everyday. Virgin Mobile is awarding a bumper prize of Rs 100,000 to a lucky winner at the end of the month.





Candyman Kaacho Mango in market



KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Jaya Confectionery on Tuesday launched its new product ´Candyman Kaacho Mango´ in the market.



Issuing a press statement, the company said the candy with green mango flavor is juicy sweet, sour and mouth watering. The company claimed that Candyman, a registered trademark of Jaya Confectionery, is a hard-boiled confectionery manufactured in state-of-art technology.



The company is the subsidiary of Laxmi Group and it manufactures premium toffees, ingredient-based candies, bubble gums and central filled candies.
